Circuit Cartagena 29.-31.5.2009

31.05.2009

The last race on Metrakit 125 PRE GP, which Míra managed to ride before the new contract with Aprilia becomes effective. The race was held in Cartagena South Spain in Muricia Province. After the previous races, where Mira was betrayed by the techniques, we were curious about the motor shape and asked the owner straight after our arrival to Barcelona. The owner made us sure, that the motorcycle is OK including the new parts. There were no obstructions to go to the circuit then. On Friday’s getting known training our mechanics focused on right settings of the gearing and chassis and slight changes in motor. The times were very good compared to the times achieved in the previous year. So we were leaving the paddock in a good mood looking forward to getting some rest in the hotel. In the first Saturday’s measured training reached Míra a very good time, which assured him with the fifth place in the provisory starting grid. More important is the second measured training, which definitely affects the starting grid in the race. In this training Míra managed to cut his time by 0,4 sec and this assured him the third place in the first row in the starting grid. The Sunday’s race began well, Míra managed the start and after the first curve he was second and he kept this position during the first two laps. After these two laps the race was interrupted by the collective fall in the middle of the starting grid. The repeated start was much better and Míra was leaving the first curve on the first place. After the first lap Míra made a 1 m lead from the second rider, which kept till the half of the race. Then both riders showed very nice changes, this finished when they got into the contact and both fall into the rocks. The race finished and the sure podium place as well. The disappointment was big, but in Spain we can not be sure until the rider is waved by the chessboard flag. We were pleased that Míra managed the 0,1sec better time in the race than in the second training. We agreed on the fact, that Míra has to forget this race and start to prepare himself for the Aprilia 125 GP, where are another getting known trainings coming.
