After one month beak we could again start motorcycle racing in Spain. On the circuit in Valencia took place races of Metrajut, motorcycles of 80ccm for young talented drivers. In this prestigious championship, where famous teams such as Aspar and BQR look for and grow their future drivers, raced Mira Popov in team INVENT racing from Barcelona as well. It is not easy for him, because he is not used to these race courses like his competitors. Altough this fact, Mira shows his abilities of a fast driver and he succeeded in this race.
Valencia is a very nice town on the seaside, there is a very nice architecture, which is sensitively built in the old city centre. Approximately 25km from Valencia to North, there is a little town Cheste, where is situated the famous circuit Moto GP from Ricardo Tormo. There was another race of the National Championship of Spain. Like in the previous race in Montmelo we could not train one week before racing. Unfortunately the circuit is so well known and during the weekend fully used, during the week it is impossible for Míra, he has to be at school. So we had to be satisfied with the three training sessions of 30mins on Friday. The first session we did not take in to account, it was Mira´s first time on the circuit. We began on 2.17 sec per Lap. In the third and last training lap he was around 2.01 sec per lap and this was comparable with his competitors. But we knew, that we made a lot of gear setting changes and his results went down. On Saturday morning we went through the first measured session, unfortunately within 15 mins Mira had to leave the race, his speed lever was damaged, in that moment he was among 5th place. Due to absence in this race his final placing was on the 30th place in the first measured session. In the second measured training he got better to the 19th place, in the total he was 10th, the third row. We were pleased with this result, it was his first time in Moto GP circuit. Mira was told not to race in warm up, but in the morning on the cold circuit he placed 5th, the boss reprimanded him, the motorcycle could get damaged, and the mechanics would have had a lot of work. Even though it was a big success, and Mira’s name was among the best such as Arennas, Mamola and Levy. According to start from the third row the expectations were high. The start was good this time. Up to the first vingl, which is taken under the full throttle by the best drivers and Mira does it as well, he was 8th. During the second two laps he got 5th and to the end he did his best, he fought toughly among the first 5. He finally finished on the 3rd place it was really close, but he managed it. The first 5 drivers were in 0.3 sec interval. It seemed that the drivers went in one row, the next group of drivers came with the 15sec delay. I was so pleased by this result, Mira can compete with the top drivers, Dakota Mamola finished on the 4th place. Timing office confirmed that Mira was the fastest driver in the difficult sections, in this is a very good news. Next time it could be even better…
